On August 1, 2010, the Swedish Defence and Security Export Agency (FXM) was established by the Swedish Government, in order to streamline and better prioritize government action on the Swedish defence exports.
A more efficient defence export
The primary tasks for FXM are to promote exports by Swedish defence industry and to represent the Swedish Government in bilateral contracts (G2G). This includes promoting exports from large as well as small and medium sized enterprises and also export of civilian applications of military technologies. The promotion is conducted under the state export control. On behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces, FXM also performs sales of surplus stock.
By establishing FXM, the Government has given the responsibility for leading and coordinating export related matters to one Governmental body – something previously lacking in the Swedish system. All other defence organizations are still involved in export related activities within their areas of competence and as tasked by FXM in its coordinating role. FXM is organized under the Swedish Ministry of Defence and located in Stockholm.
