Today, 10 September, Saab has received the final order from Brazil’s government for 36 Gripen N/Gs, i.e., the next generation of Gripen aircraft. The agreement between Saab and Brazil was entered into in October last year. After the different stages of the Brazilian procurement process have been completed. Saab has thus now received the final order, which means that the deal is completely finalised. The contract is worth some SEK 40 billion.
“It is very good news that the deal has been finalised. This is not only proof of the competitiveness of Swedish industry, but it also shows that Gripen meets the defence needs of large countries as well. The deal also builds the foundation for a long-term partnership between our countries, a partnership that will create cooperation in more areas for a greater number of companies and government agencies,” says FXM Director-General Ulf Hammarström.
FXM has also been negotiating with Brazil about Gripen. For FXM, these negotiations have been about an interim solution where the plan is for Brazil to fly the Gripen C/D, that is, the current version of Gripen, pending the arrival of the new Gripen N/G Aircraft.
